Certification Disclaimer

This page explains how certifications issued through Trail Hiking Australia Learning should be understood and used.

Last reviewed: 31 March 2026

Nature of certification

Certifications issued through this platform confirm that a participant has:

  • met the certification requirements
  • engaged with the material
  • demonstrated understanding within the scope of the assessment

Certification reflects performance within the structured assessment environment only.

Not a professional qualification

This certification is not:

  • a formal qualification
  • a regulated accreditation
  • a licence to operate in any professional capacity

It should not be represented as such.

No guarantee of real-world performance

Hiking safety depends on many factors, including:

  • environment
  • conditions
  • experience
  • judgement under pressure

Completion of training or certification does not guarantee safe outcomes in real-world situations.

Personal responsibility

All decisions made in outdoor environments remain the responsibility of the individual.

Participants must:

  • apply judgement appropriate to conditions
  • recognise changing risks
  • act within their own capability

Validity and currency

Where applicable, certifications may include:

  • issue dates
  • validity periods

Maintaining current knowledge and skills is the responsibility of the participant.

Verification

Certificates may be verified through the Trail Hiking Australia verification system using:

  • certificate number
  • participant name

Verification confirms authenticity only. It does not provide a measure of competence beyond the scope of the assessment.

Misuse of certification

Certification must not be:

  • misrepresented
  • altered
  • used in a misleading or deceptive way

Trail Hiking Australia reserves the right to revoke certification where misuse is identified.

Changes to certification

We may update:

  • training content
  • assessment standards
  • certification structure

at any time to reflect improvements to the framework.
